Runway lights to be installed Monday at Alva airport

Monday, Sept. 18, is the long awaited day when runway lights are to be installed at the Alva Regional Airport. Airport Manager Derrick Courson said the runway will be closed for that installation, but he expects it to be open later in the afternoon or evening. The lack of runway lighting has made night landings unsafe for most aircraft and cut into the amount of fuel sales at the airport. It has also prohibited medical flights from making emergency landings after dark.
