Praying for the people of Israel

Ramblings of a Redneck Farmer

Sinister deeds are taking place since Saturday in Israel. The government of Palestine and its state sponsored terrorist division, Hamas, has been attacking, murdering, raping, pillaging and kidnapping Jews right and left. The Israeli government has responded and while it may be a drawn-out process, militarily Israel will prevail.

However, what we must continue to do is support the Israeli people with prayer and I mean flood our Lord and Savior with prayer for his chosen people.

I watch so little news these days, but I have been watching little snippets of news off and on since this has started and it is not just heart-breaking for the citizens of Israel, but for the innocent residents of Palestine who will lose their lives in this conflict. The only way to find any sense in this conflict is through the words of God.

I talk a lot about the best decision you can make is giving your life to Jesus. Well, maybe the second most important decision you make is finding a church home that preaches the word of God. One where you can expect to hear sermons on sin and quite frankly one where you can walk out of church and feel like the preacher was talking to you, directly.

What you should also find in your church is a home where you pray for those who need your prayers and those who will pray for you. I felt so good about our church this morning. We always do prayer requests in Sunday School and one was praying for the people of Israel, which we obviously did. Then in our church service, instead of praying over the offering, our pastor deemed it necessary to pray for the people of Israel. I’ll tell you, I’ve never been more proud of my church. We not only put the offering on the back burner for the day but we prayed as a congregation for God’s chosen people.

We didn’t pray for their government. We didn’t pray for their military. We just prayed for the people of Israel.

We are blessed by our Lord’s grace and mercy and love. What a blessing that is, but we aren’t God’s chosen. We are adopted or grafted into the family. We are blessed that Jesus called upon Paul to go out and bring the gospel to us Gentiles and not close the doors on our eternal salvation.

While we will get to Heaven with all the other believers, there is something unmistakably godly about God’s chosen people and when they are under attack we have a duty, most times bigger than our own, to reach out to God and pray for his people and that’s is exactly what we did.

Now, were we the only church that did that today? No, I’m sure we weren’t. I’m sure we weren’t even the only church in town to do that. There are so many godly churches in town and around the area. What I am also sure of is that God is weeping for HIS people and Hamas is going to feel his wrath.

Psalms 121:4 reads, “He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” Let’s continue to pray for the people of Israel, for our Creator to take care of his children.

Maybe next week we will talk about the $6 billion that our government made available to the Iranian government under the guise of humanitarian aid but was really ransom money for hostages to be released. That may not sound so bad until you realize that the biggest sponsor of state terrorism in that region is Iran.

It almost seems like the good ole USA bombed Israel, and it isn’t a reach to say we did.

I’ll talk to you next week. May you have a blessed week.
