Rangers drop homecoming game against Harding

ALVA – Northwestern had their homecoming last Saturday afternoon against Harding University. The Bisons jumped out early with two first quarter touchdowns before closing out a victory over the Rangers.

The loss drops Northwestern to 0-6 on the season as Harding improves to 6-0 on the season.

Harding opened the game with a seven-play drive after starting on their own 29. The drive was capitalized by a 10-yard rushing touchdown. Bisons got the ball back with an interception. This set up their second touchdown drive, which took two plays following a rush up the middle for a 34-yard touchdown pass and a 14-0 lead.

The Bisons continued to carry the momentum, starting the second quarter with the ball. They led off with a 37-yard rushing touchdown to open the quarter taking a 21-0 lead. After getting down to the Ranger one following a 34-yard gain, Harding scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown for a 28-0 lead. Harding carried a 42-0 lead over the Rangers at the break.

Harding added one more touchdown in the third. With 5:55 left in the quarter, a 22-yard rush set up a six-yard rushing touchdown. Late in the third quarter and into the fourth, the Rangers were in the driver's seat when a fake punt was rushed for 32 yards and a first down. The Harding defense forced a fourth and 6 on the Bisons' territory as Deal threw an interception that was run back for a touchdown and a 56-0 deficit.

The final touchdown of the game happened on an interception for a touchdown. This made the score 62-0 as the extra point was blocked by Daniel Contreras for the Rangers.

The final score was 62-0 in favor of Harding.

Northwestern will have their second straight home game on Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. as East Central comes to Alva.
