Alva water to be shut off Tuesday morning

• Residents asked to conserve water use

Alva City Business Manager Steve Ford says the city water supply coming from the wellfield will be shut off Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. The planned shutdown is needed to hook up new sections of waterline between the city and the wellfield.

After many line breaks in the area, the city applied for and received a grant to pay for replacing the worst sections of the waterline. During earlier breaks, they realized shutoff valves were needed. They could only shut off water in both lines, not just one of the two parallel lines from the wellfield, to make repairs. The new sections will add strategically placed valves to remedy that problem.

Ford said Alva’s water tanks hold enough to keep the city supplied for 24 hours. The waterline replacements will be installed as quickly as possible. Alva will have water flowing Tuesday, but the pressure might be less than normal.

Meanwhile, you might move your morning shower, dishwasher run or laundry to be finished Monday night.
