Bids too high for Locust Street project

Bids to move water lines in the 700 and 800 blocks of Locust Street came in too high, so the Alva City Council rejected them. City Business Manager Stephen Ford says the city will do the work themselves with help from a REAP grant.

It seems like a setback for the residents along the 700 and 800 blocks of Locust Street. During their meeting Monday, Oct. 16, the Alva Utility Authority rejected the bids to replace and relocate water lines in those blocks.

Street paving was removed in the 700 block but it was discovered the water lines under the street needed replacement. The city is working to move all water lines to the right-of-way beside streets to avoid tearing up streets for leaks and line breaks.
