Ranger soccer season ends in loss to Bison

SHAWNEE – Northwestern Oklahoma State went to Shawnee to close out the 2023 season against Oklahoma Baptist. The Bison took advantage of two first half goals before closing out a 2-1 win over the Rangers.

Northwestern ends the season 2-8-8 with a 1-5-6 conference record. Oklahoma Baptist finishes the regular season 8-8-2 with a 7-3-2 record to win the conference regular season.

Maggie Koster finished the game with four saves made as Victoria Ruvalcaba scored the Ranger goal, her third of the season.

Oklahoma Baptist had the first shot on goal as Koster made the save. Rangers came out aggressive looking to find spot behind the Bison defense but called for multiple offsides before their first shot on goal was saved by Mia Pendleton.

After a scoreless first 35 minutes, the home team Oklahoma Baptist struck in the 36th minute. Jadynn Daggs opened the scoring with a goal at the 36:25 minute mark. The Bison were able to strike again 34 seconds later as Hali White found the back of the net assisted by Daggs for here third point of the game with a goal and an assist.

The score remained 2-0 heading into the halftime break.

Oklahoma Baptist came out with three shots in the opening five minutes of the half all off target. Haneborg answered with a shot on goal that was saved by Pendleton as the Bison protected their two goal lead.

It was in the 73rd minute of the match that the Rangers found the back of the net for the first time of the game as Victoria Ruvalcaba scored as Carlie Massingale had the assist, cutting the deficit in half 2-1.

The Bison closed out the victory over the Rangers making the final save of the game on a shot by Sydne Edmiston as Pendleton made the save sealing the win for Oklahoma Baptist.
