Area teams advance in football playoffs

Two teams in the Newsgram area are in the final four of Class C football championships. Both teams will be playing on Friday at Alex High School.

The Waynoka Railroaders defeated Thackerville 64-54 to move into the semifinals. The Railroaders will take on Tipton Friday at 1 p.m. Tipton beat Graham-Dustin 56-6 to advance.

The Timberlake Tigers beat Coyle 32-20 Friday night in the quarterfinals. The Tigers will play Ryan at 7 p.m. in Alex. Ryan defeated Wilson (Henryetta) 56-37 on Friday.

The winners of the semifinal games will meet on Friday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany.

The Alva Goldbugs won Friday to move into the quarterfinals of the Class 2A football championships. Alva beat Kingston 28-23 to advance. The Goldbugs will play Kiefer at Kingfisher High School on Friday at 1 p.m.

Other class 2A quarterfinal games on Friday are Millwood vs Idabel at 1 p.m. at East Central University; Vian vs Washington at 7 p.m. at East Central University; and Victory Christian vs Jones at 1 p.m. in Bristow. The winner of the Alva vs Kiefer game will play the winner of the Millwood vs Idabel contest in the semifinals. The Class 2A state championship game will be Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

In nearby Major County, the Fairview Yellowjackets beat Crescent 19-7 in Class A football playoffs. Fairview will take on Stroud at 7 p.m. Friday at Moore High School in the semifinals.
