Ladybugs, Goldbugs travel to Blackwell Tuesday

• Wheat Capital Tournament begins Thursday

The Alva High basketball teams will be back in action Tuesday, Jan. 2, as they travel to Blackwell to take on the Maroons. Tip-off for the girls' varsity game is at 6:30 p.m. with the boys' game to follow. JV games precede the varsity at 4 p.m.

The Ladybugs go into the game with a record of 7-1 while Blackwell has a 3-4 record. In their last meeting Dec. 5, the Ladybugs beat the Lady Maroons 47-38.

The Goldbugs have a 5-3 season record while Blackwell is 3-4. When Alva hosted Blackwell on Dec. 5, the Goldbugs won 55-38.

The annual Wheat Capital Tournament begins Thursday at Chisholm High School. The Alva girls are pitted against the Chisholm Lady Longhorns at 3:20 p.m. The Ladybugs beat Chisholm 35-23 in their last meeting on Nov. 28. The winner of that game advances to play the winner of the Jones vs Drummond game at 3:20 p.m. Friday while the loser will play at 10 a.m. Friday against the loser of Jones vs Drummond.

The Goldbugs take on Perry in the first round Thursday afternoon at 4:40 p.m. The Goldbugs beat Perry 71-45 on Dec. 15. The winner of Thursday's game will continue in the winners' side of the bracket to play the victor in the Jones vs Kingfisher matchup at 4:40 p.m. The loser will take on the loser of the Jones-Kingfisher game at 11:20 a.m.

Following the tournament, the Alva High varsity won't play again until Friday, Jan. 12, when they host Chisholm.
