Alva Ladybugs beat Perry for third in Wheat Capital

The Alva Ladybugs won two of three games to take third place in the Wheat Capital Tournament at Chisholm last week. They defeated Chisholm in the first round but lost to Jones by two points in their second game. The Alva girls beat Perry on Saturday to take the third-place trophy.
Ladybugs vs Chisholm
The Ladybugs dominated Chisholm in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, doubling the Lady Longhorns in scoring 60-30.
Jaycee Kelln led the Alva scoring with 17 points followed by Lakin Gaddy with 10. Carly Argo, Kylie Adair and Hadlee Ohm had eight points apiece. Asia Blackledge had five points while Morgan Heath and Mya Graves each scored two.
The Chisholm team was led by Emma Kate Kruska with ten.
Ladybugs vs Jones
Alva faced another set of Lady Longhorns on Friday, taking on Jones in the winner's bracket game. The teams were tied at 16 at the end of the first quarter, but Jones pulled ahead 31-24 at halftime. Both teams managed nine points in the third with Jones holding a 40-33 lead. In the final quarter, Alva narrowed the deficit to four points. Jones added a free throw. Then with one second left, Lakin Gaddy sank a three-pointer, but it wasn't quite enough. Jones won 53-51.
Gaddy led the Ladybug scoring with 19 points followed by Carly Argo with 11 and Hadlee Ohm with nine. Kylie Adair had six points while Jaycee Kelln had four and Morgan Heath two.
Karma Lewis and Sofi Woodson led Jones in scoring with 13 points each followed by Karizma Johnson with ten. Kasia Hansen and Kneah Smith each had eight.
Ladybugs vs Perry
The third-place game on Saturday pitted Alva against the Perry Lady Maroons. The Ladybugs got off to a good start, leading 17-8 at the end of the first quarter. Alva held a 27-20 lead going into halftime. Although Perry managed to cut into the margin, the Ladybugs won 55-51 to take third place in the tournament.
Lakin Gaddy again led the scoring for Alva with 20 points followed by Jaycee Kelln with ten. Carly Argo and Kylie Adair each had eight. Hadlee Ohm scored six points and Morgan Heath three.
The Lady Maroons were led by Kennedy Hight with 28 points. Sarah Davidson had 16 followed by Bella Porter with four, Brooklyn Moses with two and Emery Halford with one.

After four games last week, the Ladybugs had a few days off. They play at home tonight, Jan. 12, in a rematch with the Chisholm Lady Longhorns. Tipoff is at 6:30 p.m. in the Alva High School gym.
