The Chisholm Lady Longhorns are having a rebuilding year as evidenced by their record of 2-10 going into the Friday night, Jan. 12, game at Alva. The hometown Ladybugs had no problem jumping out to a big lead. It was also an opportunity to allow younger players to work on skills.

The Ladybugs led 18-3 at the end of the first quarter and continued to outscore the Lady Longhorns in the second for a 41-13 lead at halftime. The Ladybug third quarter advantage was 56-18, and Alva finished with a 67-23 win.

First Half

Scoring began at the foul line where Jaycee Kelln put the first two points up for Alva. Emma Kate Kreska tied the score with a Chisholm basket and was fouled. She made the free throw giving Chisholm a 3-2 lead briefly. Those were the only Lady Longhorn points scored in the first quarter as Alva went on a 16-0 scoring run with points from Hadlee Ohm, Lakin Gaddy and Channing Ferguson.

Gaddy opened scoring for the second quarter with a trey to put Alva up 21-3. The Ladybugs dominated the quarter with 23 points while Chisholm managed ten. Gaddy had an especially good quarter with ten points, six of them from three-point range. Carly Argo also contributed a couple of three pointers during the quarter. The Ladybugs went into the break leading 41-13.

Second Half

As they rotated in younger players, the Ladybugs scored 15 points in the third quarter while Chisholm had five. Sophomore Kambri Rhodes stuck a three-point shot and later added a free throw for Alva. The Alva girls led 56-18 at the end of the third quarter.
