Ladybugs lose to Cashion in Enid Festival

• Pick up win at Tonkawa 65-25

The Alva Ladybugs traveled to the Skordle Enid Festival Friday afternoon, Jan. 26, where they were matched up with Class 2A Cashion. The Lady Wildcats edged out to lead 13-8 in the first quarter and continued to stay ahead of the Ladybugs the rest of the game. At halftime, Cashion led 27-23. The Lady Cats increased their lead to 47-37 in the third quarter with a 6-0 run just before the buzzer. The final was Cashion 52, Alva 40.

Lakin Gaddy led Alva scoring with 17 points followed by Jaycee Kelln with 10. Kylie Adair scored six points, Hadlee Ohm four and Carly Argo three.

The Lady Wildcats were led by Lauren Jenkins with 21 points followed by Reese Williams with eight. Megan Shafer and Abby Hobgood had seven points each with Addison McCracken and Brooke Shafer scoring two points apiece.

Ladybugs at Tonkawa

The game at Tonkawa on Tuesday had a different outcome. The Ladybugs dominated the Lady Buccaneers throughout the game to win 65-25. In the final period, the Alva offensive effort held Tonkawa to just two points.


The Ladybugs were led in scoring by Jaycee Kelln with 22 followed by Lakin Gaddy with 11 and Channing Ferguson with nine. Hadlee Ohm and Carly Argo scored six points each while Kambrie Rhodes had five. Morgan Heath, Lyndee Friday and Kylie Adair had two points each. The Ladybugs had 17 steals in the game and made 16 of 17 attempts at the free throw line.

For Tonkawa, Whitley Johnson led the way with 13 followed by Henley Hembree with five and Addison Branson with three. Chloe Anderson and Karter James had two points each.


With the win, the Ladybugs have a 16-3 season record going into tonight's homecoming game (Feb. 2) against the Frontier Lady Mustangs. Tipoff is at 6:30 p.m. but the homecoming coronation is at 5:45 p.m. Following the Ladybug game, seniors will be recognized before the Goldbug tipoff.
