Big second half scoring gave the Alva Ladybugs a 60-38 win over Rejoice Christian in the first round of regionals last Thursday, Feb. 22, at Chisholm. With a two-point edge at halftime, the Ladybugs outscored the Lady Eagles 29-10 in the second half to take the win.
Lakin Gaddy led the Alva girls in scoring with 22 points followed by Jaycee Kelln with 13 (10 of those in the second half). Hadlee Ohm had ten points with Carly Argo scoring nine and Kylie Adair six. The Ladybugs were 15 of 18 from the free throw line.
Rejoice Christian was led by Madison Hunnicutt with 16 while Sarah Heiskell had ten. Lilah Cariker made eight points, Cassidy Hurst three and Elly Scott one.
Alva vs Blackwell
With the win, the Ladybugs moved into the regional final on Saturday at Perry where they took on the Blackwell Lady Maroons. As in previous meetings, the Ladybugs easily took control of the game to lead 16-5 in the first quarter and 31-11 at halftime. After the third quarter, Alva led 40-21 and earned a 59-31 win for the regional championship.
Jaycee Kelln led the Ladybugs scoring with 14 followed by Lakin Gaddy with 13. Kylie Adair and Hadlee Ohm had 11 points each. Carly Argo scored six with Morgan Heath and Channing Ferguson contributing two points apiece.
Blackwell had only one player in double figures as Nora Jacobs scored 13 points. Jadeden Munroe had six points, Samantha Vowel five, Aleah Hankins four, Maysa Edgar two and Reese Lambert one.
The Ladybugs are set to play Roland tonight (March 1) at 6 p.m. in the area tournament at Kellyville. A win would send the Ladybugs to the Big House for state quarterfinals. A loss would mean another chance to advance with a game on Saturday at 6 p.m. Saturday's opponent will be the team that wins the Spiro vs Victory Christian and Keys (Parkhill) vs Blackwell matches from Thursday and Friday games.
