Burlington FFA recently sponsored a Stamp-Out Starvation event at Burlington School. Students in all grades were invited to join in preparing and packaging meals throughout the day. The meal will be sent to other countries through Stamp Out Starvation.

Stamp Out Starvation President Monte Stewart shows Burlington student Seth Zahnter how to properly seal a package of food.

The mission of the non-profit organization is to provide nutritious meals to people around the world. According to statistics from the United Nations, 25,000 people die every day from hunger and malnutrition. Stamp Out Starvation is a non-profit organization located in Cherokee that operates through donations and volunteers. President Monte Stewart works tirelessly, traveling all over northwest Oklahoma and Kansas with his truck and trailer full of supplies, setting up volunteer packaging events.

Burlington School prepared nearly 7,000 packages. Each package contains six meals, so they helped provide nearly 42,000 meals to those in need. To schedule an event with Stamp Out Starvation, e-mail Monte at stampoutstarvation@ sctelcom.net.
