CROP Walk helps end hunger one step at a time – locally and around the world

A group of Kiowans meet at Centennial Park on Main Street in preparation to make the CROP Walk on a hot October afternoon Sunday.

On a sunny, unusually hot October Sunday afternoon, around 20 walkers and four dogs congregated on Main Street in Kiowa, Kansas, to make the annual CROP Walk route designed to go by each church in town.

Despite the smaller-than-usual number of walkers, the group still collected just over $1,300, according to co-organizer Carra Mayberry. She and co-organizer Judy Schrock will continue to collect money until Nov. 6.

CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service. Each October local congregations or groups organize the walks to raise funds to end hunger at home and...
