At TriState, a look ahead to Regionals

October 21, 2016

Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Alva Band of Gold went to Enid to compete in the Tri-State field marching contest at Shelby Stadium, performing at 6:45 p.m.

“As a band, we prepared as best as we could given the demands of our time,” said Cara Bradt, band director at Alva High School.

The Alva band performed their field show consisting of cartoon theme songs. They have been working in class – and some out of class – for weeks to prepare. Tri-State is a contest many bands use to see, roughly, what their scores will be in Regionals, which is held at the same stadium.

The band marched well, but did not play to their full potential, leaving areas open for criticism from the judges. The band did not get the official results. A thunderstorm blew into Enid as they were leaving the stadium, which caused the contest to be put on hold.

The band contest did give some students time to shine.

“A big shout out to Jacob Stewart and the 'Carless Whisper' solo,” said Bradt when asked if any students impressed her with their performance.

The band will perform their show for all the home football games throughout the season. They hope to smooth out some of the rough areas in time for the regional marching contest on Oct. 27.
