Lady Bison Draw with Tigers

October 23, 2016

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist and East Central played to a 1-1 draw in a Great American Conference match at the OBU Soccer Complex Saturday afternoon.

For the Lady Bison (9-4-1, 6-3-1 GAC), it was the first home match since Sept. 27, and their first tie of the season. OBU remains in third place in the GAC with 19 points, one point ahead of Harding. The Tigers (3-10-2, 3-6-1 GAC) are sixth in the league.

Reagan Mann gave OBU the lead in the 30th minute when she scored her first goal of the season. Following a Lady Bison free kick, the ball was played into the six-yard box by Jennifer Goethe. Mann was able to place the ball just inside the low right post to beat the keeper and give OBU a 1-0 advantage.

The lone Oklahoma Baptist goal held up until ECU was able to score with 56 seconds remaining in regulation, sending the match to extra time.

Despite taking nine shots in the two overtime periods, the Lady Bison were unable to score again after the first 90 minutes of play. OBU limited the Tigers to just one shot in the first overtime, and none in the final 10 minutes of the match.

Emma Beck made five saves between the sticks, allowing one goal to East Central. Goethe anchored a solid back line that allowed just 13 shots in 110 minutes of play.

OBU attempted 28 shots, testing the keeper 13 times on the afternoon. Senior Kenzi Bice paced OBU with six shots, including two on goal. Mann attempted four shots, with Goethe, Emmily Infante, andKerregan Edwards taking three shots each.

Up next for Oklahoma Baptist is a home match against Southwestern Oklahoma State, the top team in the GAC, on Oct. 27. The Lady Bison look to exact revenge after falling 2-3 in overtime earlier this season.
