Final robotics competition in Alva Saturday

The wide panoramic photo wasn't quite wide enough to capture all the students cheering and yelling for their robotics teams at the Pete and Ruth Leslie gym at the Alva rec park. The event is hosted by the science and math faculty at NWOSU. The nationwide final will be Dec. 1 - 3 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.

The 15th year of the Heartland BEST 2016 Robotics competition was held Saturday at the Alva Recreational Center gymnasium. This competition is the only one held in Oklahoma, with 18 states participating nationwide.

The theme this year is "Bet the Farm" and the students were to devise a robot to harvest small crop items such as corn. The term BEST in the title name means Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology.

A practice day was held Oct. 15 at the recreation complex in Alva so the participants could see what the game field consisted of.
