Beeler selected as State Officer for Heath Occupation Students of America (HOSA)

November 4, 2016

On Oct. 22, Riley Beeler, a senior at Alva High School, got selected to be a state officer for Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA). HOSA is an organization that helps better the health field by participating in service projects.

Beeler has been a part of HOSA since the fall of 2015. She has attended multiple conferences that have impacted her greatly. This past summer, Beeler attended the National Leadership Conference where she first started wanting to become a state officer for HOSA.

“I attended the National Leadership Conference this past summer, and the passion and love for helping people I saw in the room affected me greatly,” she said. “I wanted to be a part of that and I wanted to help benefit the health services I could and thought what better way to do that than to become a state officer for an organization that focuses on helping others.”

Beeler had to go through the process of making and editing a YouTube video about who she is and why she wanted to be a member of HOSA. Her second step was to take a 25-question quiz about HOSA history, on which she had to correctly answer over 70 percent on to go on to the next round.

The next step was a four-part interview. She wrote a proper thank you letter, introduced herself, did cold reading and was interviewed.

From there, she went to Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) and campaigned by talking to other schools about herself and why she would be a great choice for a HOSA officer. Then she waited for the results to be presented at the end of FLC.

On Nov. 8 – 10, Beeler will find out officially what office she received. She will be placed on her scores, personality, and to the office her adviser thinks we can fulfill the best.
