Bicycle stolen

• Van collides with horse

An Alva resident reported the theft of a bicycle to the Alva Police Department. Riley Page Bryant who lives in the 800 block of Barnes said her bike was stolen from the back of her residence between 5 p.m. Nov. 8 and 5 p.m. Nov. 10.

The bicycle is described as a Panama Jack Beach Cruiser with a basket on the front. It is light blue and red with leather trim. The bike is valued at $200.

Van vs Horse

On Thursday, Oct. 27, about 9 p.m. Molly Wingard, 18, of Yukon was driving a 2011 Chevrolet van driving south on U.S. Highway 281 just south of Harmon Road and struck a black horse that was on the highway. Wingard was wearing a seatbelt and the airbag did not deploy. Wingard refused medical treatment. Her vehicle received damage to the front windshield and roof area. It was removed by a local wrecker company.

The horse was seriously injured and had to be dispatched. The owner was found and identified as Brett Blackwood from Liberal, Kansas. Blackwood and his horse were in Alva for the NWOSU Rodeo. Blackwood estimated the value of his horse was between $5,000 and $6,000.

Alva Police Officer John Caviness was the investigating officer.

Oklahoma Boulevard Collision

Two vehicles collided on Oklahoma Boulevard at College Avenue on Friday, Nov. 11. The wreck occurred at 3:10 p.m.

Alva Police Officer William Shahan reports that Ronald Dean Kilgore, 78, of Alva was driving a 1994 GMC north from a private drive at NWOSU planning to cross Oklahoma Boulevard to College Avenue. Eugene James Highfill, 55, of Cherokee was in a 1995 Dodge traveling south on College Avenue and had stopped at the sign at the intersection planning to turn east on Oklahoma Boulevard.

Kilgore proceeded onto Oklahoma Boulevard as Highfill began his turn to the east. Highfill’s vehicle struck Kilgore’s vehicle on the front driver’s side.
