Gracie Scarbrough

December 16, 2016

Gracie Scarbrough is a sophomore at Alva High School. Scarbrough is involved in cheerleading, student council, Key Club, FCA, speech and journalism. She decided to take journalism because she wanted to see what it entailed as a class, and she wanted to learn more about the newspaper process.

Scarbrough said, "I have learned a lot about the newspaper process. I have learned that each story is time consuming and takes a lot of work. I now know how integral interviews are to each story and how important deadlines are. Fact checking and research are also a major part of the process, along with editing, to make sure every piece of information is correct."

Scarbrough believes that this class will help her later in life because she will have experience writing for a newspaper, and will have an idea about how everything works and what all is included in the process needed to complete each newspaper.

She commented, "My biggest struggle so far has been getting interviews on time because not everybody knows the importance of deadlines, and it is hard to get a schedule figured out between the interviewer and the interviewee, because everybody is so busy. Another struggle has been meeting deadlines. This is sometimes a struggle because every good thing takes time, and I want my articles to be perfect but I have to turn it in on time, whether I think it is ready or not."

Scarbrough says the community support for the Goldbug Standard has impacted her because it is encouraging to know that what she is doing is appreciated and getting information out about Alva High School is a help to the community.
