A large number came to the Freedom School cafeteria to support the Smith family following the fire that destroyed their home.
Freedom Volunteer EMS and Fire Department sponsored a chili benefit to help Austin, Marlo and Jimmy Smith who lost their home and belongings to an early morning fire on Friday, Jan. 6.
The benefit was announced via an automated phone call system, social network and word of mouth, and the community showed up. The announcement asked Freedom residents and others to come to a chili benefit and silent auction. Over 100 desserts and miscellaneous items lined the walls of the school cafeteria.
