February 5, 2017

MONTICELLO - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team fell to Great American Conference foe Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon, by a final score of 81-72.

The Blossoms (9-10, 6-9 GAC) despite only trailing the Bulldogs of SWOSU (14-6, 10-4 GAC) 35-34 at halftime, UAM could not rally to complete its comeback in the second half of the match-up. Arkansas-Monticello trailed as little as one point at various points in the second half, but Southwestern continued to find an answer to pull away, as the Bulldogs held a lead in this contest for nearly the entire game. The Bulldogs created just enough small runs throughout the game to finally seal the victory at 81-72 by the final buzzer over the Blossoms.

Arkansas-Monticello was led on the offensive side of the ball by sophomore Ayesha Wahid with 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field. Wahid went on to record four rebounds, and three assists in the match-up as well.

Brittnee Broadway (16), Treasure Evans (13), and Braxton Chumley (10) each provided double-digit scoring days for the Blossoms also. Broadway turned in a solid overall stat-line in this contest as well, leading UAM in total rebounds with seven and adding three assists.

Final team statistics for Arkansas-Monticello on the day included shooting 48 percent (31-for-64) from the field, 13 percent (1-for-8) on three's, and 75 percent (9-for-12) from the free throw line. SWOSU finished the game shooting 44 percent (27-for-61) overall, 36 percent beyond the arc (10-for-28), and 85 percent (17-for-20) on foul shots.

UAM will be back in action next Thursday, February 9 as the Blossoms will host Henderson State in a GAC showdown inside Steelman Field House with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
