Woods County commissioners sell dump trucks to city

February 9, 2017

David Hamil of Woods County District 1 made a motion for the county to sell two 1982 small dump trucks to the city of Alva for $3,000 each. After the other commissioners approved the agenda item, Hamil explained the county was no longer using the trucks and the city was interested.

Not much interest was shown for the fair board election. Potential candidates were to file, and then voting would occur at the county shed for each district. Only Kevin Pingelton filed and was approved. He has signed the oath of office and is ready to continue.

As a result of no others filing, the commissioners were not yet ready to appoint others to the vacant spots. There are supposed to be two candidates from each commissioner district. So they took no action on agenda items regarding appointments.

Commissioner Randy McMurphy read aloud a resolution declaring Woods County a disaster area because of the Jan. 13-15 ice storm. The commissioners voted to approve the resolution. The hope is that some disaster funds will become available to help repair damage.

A cash drawer change amount permitted was increased in the treasurer's office. The motion will increase the amount the cash drawer contains from $150 to $300. The commissioners were told that many people will bring in $100 bills to pay taxes and they were exhausting their change drawer and having to make frequent trips to the bank to replenish it.

The monthly reports for the following offices were presented:

Assessor collections: $318

County Clerk Office collections: $20,314.25

Court Clerk Office balance: $237,258.40

Election Board balance: $4,391.60

Health Department collections: $60.10

Treasurer’s Office balance: $130,172.54

Sheriff’s Office collections: $3,297.73

Board of Prisoners expense: $8,744.19

The commissioners mentioned the reception for Woods County Extension Educator Greg Highfill will be held in the courthouse lobby on Feb. 8 from 2 p.m. to 3 pm.
