Bison Go Low on Day One

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – (Day One Results) Oklahoma Baptist golfers finished under par in six of their opening 10 rounds at the TMU Spring Invitational Monday, vaulting them to second place with one round to play.

Nine golfers were still on the course at the conclusion of play Monday, and are set to wrap up their rounds prior to the start of play Tuesday.

The Bison totaled 552 (281, 271), and are eight-under par as a team following the first 36 holes of play at the par-70 Robinson Ranch Golf Club. After a solid first round finish at one-over par, OBU turned in a spectacular nine-under par in round two.

It was the first below-par round of the year for the Bison, and surpassed the lowest round to par as a team since September 2015, a three-under performance at the Southwestern Christian University Intercollegiate.

Three OBU golfers are under-par after the first day of competition in the spring season, and the Bison trail Victoria (271, 280) by just one stroke.

"We played very well. We had a couple of guys step up for us in a big way," said first year Bison head coach Drew Posada. "This team has kept on improving and sticking to the process and this is just the fruit of their hard work."

Hudson Hoover sits in fourth place and shares low round honors after turning in a 64 on his second 18. At 135 (71, 64), Hoover is five-under par for the tournament and just two strokes behind the leaders heading into the final round of play.

Freshman Mason Nutt is tied for ninth place at three-under 137 (70, 67), and senior Kyle Perdew carded a 69 to end the day at one-under par 139 (70, 69).

Dalton Rhoden shot a three-over 143 (70, 73) in his Bison debut, matching the two-round total of Lucas Coapman (72, 71).

OBU will be paired with Victoria in the final round after the teams played to a virtual deadlock heading into Tuesday. The Vikes boast two players tied for the lead at seven-under 133.

"We still have work tomorrow to finish the job," said Posada.
