Lady Mulerider Track and Field dominant at Marc Randle Classic; claims team-title in 12-team field

 


TYLER, Texas – The Southern Arkansas Lady Mulerider Track and Field team opened the outdoor portion of their 2017 schedule dominantly as the program claimed the team-title in the 12-team field at the Marc Randle Classic behind the stellar performances of five event winners and 12 top-three finishers.

It was the first outdoor meet of the season for SAU, which had previously competed indoors twice this spring: A-State Invitational and the Dunamis Sport Group Indoor Classic. The Lady Muleriders earned 153 points to take the top spot, while Wiley College scored 131.50 points to conclude post-century mark scoring. McMurry University (71), UT-Tyler (55), and Hendrix College (50) rounded out the top-five.

Nine additional Lady Muleriders recorded top-five finishes on the afternoon.

Freshman Claudine Blancaflor (20 points) claimed a pair of wins in the 800 meter (2:18.20) and 1500 meter (4:48.13) events, while Breanna Byrd (18 points 15 points) topped the field in the 100 meter with a time of 12.74. Byrd also posted a second-place finish in the 200 meter (26.07), was the lead leg on the highly-touted 4x100 meter relay team that took first with a time of 48.45 and was the second leg on a fourth-place 4x400 meter relay (4:17.61).

The third leg of the 4x100 meter relay team, Justice Reliford, claimed the long jump crown with a final lunge of 5.89 meters. Qua'Dajia O'Neil and Erin Goree joined Byrd and Reliford on the 4x100 meter relay.
