Tigers drop opener to Southeastern Oklahoma State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers' baseball team (8-20, 5-11 GAC) lost the first game of their series at home Saturday to Southeastern Oklahoma (6-17-1, 5-9 GAC) by a final score of 10-5.

The Tigers led the game early, but five eighth inning runs from Southeastern led the Storm to a victory. Preston Speers had two early RBI for the Tigers, and Jakahari Howell homered in the fifth inning to pick up two RBI for himself. John Franklin Matros pitched into the eighth inning for the Tigers and was relieved by Logan Huneycutt in the midst of the eighth. Huneycutt took the loss for Ouachita. Ryan Hammer went 3-4 on the day, scoring twice.

Ouachita jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after one third inning run and two fourth inning runs. Southeastern responded in fifth inning with three runs to tie the score, but Jakahari Howell hit a home run in the bottom of the inning to give the Tigers a 5-3 lead. Southeastern controlled the game from that point on. An eighth inning grand slam gave the Storm a 9-5 lead, and a ninth inning score solidified the 10-5 victory.

The Tigers will finish the home series tomorrow, Mar. 26, with a doubleheader. Games will begin at 12 and 3 p.m.
