Regional champs again

• AHS speech and debate team wins 13th regional title

Alva High School speech and debate students won their 13th straight regional championship last week. They competed in the Class 4A regional contest at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Fifteen students placed in 21 events to win the opportunity to go to state competition. The University of Oklahoma in Norman will host the state contest April 6-8.

Students who qualified for state are:

• Shadi Nettles in Original Oratory

• Trenton Starkey in Original Oratory, Domestic Extemporaneous and Lincoln-Douglas Debate

• Priscila Saaniego in Standard Oratory/Monologue and Humorous interp

• Hayden Vasquez in Foreign Extemporaneous

• Aaron Erickson in Dramatic Interpretation, Monologue and Poetry

• Kylee Harzman in Prose

• Ali Harzman in Prose

• Dawson Manning in Prose

• Justin Meyer in Monologue

• Hayden Vasquez and Jake Ervin in Cross Examination Debate

• Mitchell Meyer and Dawson Manning in Humorous Duet

• Justin Meyer and Chase Jones in Humorous Duet

• Camryn Wren and Kaleigh Henke in Dramatic Duet

• Kylee Harzman and Ali Harzman in Dramatic Duet

• Julie Owen and Shadi Nettle in Dramatic Duet

The team won with 90 points beating Harding Fine Arts, Hennessy and Chisholm. Nick Bradt is their coach.
