South Barber musicians qualify for state contest

 


Last Saturday South Barber High School vocalists and instrumentalists competed at the Regional Music Festival at Butler County Community College in Eldorado, Kansas.

Boram Shin is the vocal teacher with Jill Daughhetee as the band director. Of their students, five soloists and the Men's Choir (a quartet) earned I (Superior) ratings and advance to the state festival April 29.

Men's Choir members are: Joseph Bowden, Kolby Pavlu, Nick Malone and Guy Thongmeesang. They sang “Break of Day.”

Vocal soloists receiving I ratings are: Joseph Bowden, Kolby Pavlu and Guy Thongmeesang. Bowden also earned a I on his tuba solo. Pavlu received a I on his trumpet solo.

The Women's Ensemble received a II (Excellent) rating. Members are: Hannah McCullough, Haylie Drake, Sabrina Hughbanks, Savannah Hughbanks, Taylor Pollock, Karlissa Little, Madison Dotts and Kassidy Cloyd.

Receiving a II on their vocal solos were: Hannah McCullough, Haylie Drake, Sabrina Hughbanks, Taylor Pollock and Karlissa Little.
