Suns set event record, finish third at Central Region Spring Preview

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Arkansas Tech women's golf team bounced back from a rough first round by shooting the lowest round in tournament history with a second round 300 (+12) to come away with a third place finish at the Central Region Spring Preview at the Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo. on Tuesday.

The Golden Suns will return to the course in a few weeks as they will travel to Hot Springs, Ark. for the 2017 Great American Conference Championships being played at the Hot Springs Country Club on April 23-25.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Arkansas Tech bounced back from a first round 322 (+34) with an incredible second round 300 (+12), which broke the Central Region Spring Preview tournament record at the Rivercut Golf Course for lowest round score since Augustana scored a 305 (+17) in the 2015.

The Golden Suns skyrocketed up the leaderboard on the second day, climbing from ninth to third. Tech finished just seven strokes back of tournament winner, Northeastern State and just two strokes back of second place Henderson State. The Suns shot six strokes better than Southwestern Oklahoma (628, +52), seven strokes better than Augustana (629, +53), and eight strokes lower than Lindenwood (630, +54).

Anna Frandsen led the Golden Suns on the second day of the event, as she finished the round with a 72 (E) to climb 37 spots to finish in a tie for 12th with a 155 (+11).

Pia Nunbhakdi turned in the low score for the Suns in the event, finishing in fourth with a 149 (+5).
