Sixth grade students visit the Oklahoma State Capitol

On their tour of the capitol are Mrs. Aliene Gosselin, Henry Peters, Weston Allen, Ky Smith, Bethany Lancaster, Kali Gardner, Ashlynn Paschall, Kynlee Kolb, Kevin Kaumans, Harlene Smart, JC Crusinbery and Mrs. Nicole Kern.
Burlington sixth graders got the pleasure of traveling to the state capitol on Tuesday, May 9. They met with former sixth grade teacher Terry Pederson, whose husband is now a state senator. She was kind enough to get the students introduced in both the house and senate sessions. The students met Sen. Roland Pederson and Rep. Carl Newton. They were shown both the state lounge and the Senate lounge and felt very special. Some mentioned they could just lie down and take a nap.
After lunch on the lawn, Pederson game them a tour of the capitol. They saw the governor's office, along with the Hall of Statues where the students saw a statue of every Oklahoma governor who has ever been in office. The students also got a chance to go in an underground tunnel and run like a herd of buffalo, ending up across the street from the Capitol. This was a surprise that they thought was pretty cool.
The students were treated to some pie and beverages after their tour. Pederson kept them busy and by the end of the day they were all exhausted.
