Great cloud of witnesses

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders, and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Hebrews 11:1).
The great cloud of witness the writer has in mind are all those heroes of the Old Testament listed in chapter 11; men like Abel, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses. The writer’s main point is that we, along with they, are being blessed by God’s grace. Please allow me to add a few names to the list that the Hebrew writer did not have the opportunity to meet in the flesh.
