An Alva motorist had her vehicle struck by a falling hay bale on Thursday, June 1. The accident occurred at 3 p.m. on Flynn Street at the intersection of Skyline.

Daresa Pearl Moser, 18, of Alva was driving a 2013 Chevrolet west on Flynn Street. Alex Alonso Ceniceros, 19, of Alva was driving a 2003 Chevrolet owned by Mackey Livestock Inc. and pulling a trailer loaded with hay bales. Ceniceros pulled from the stop sign heading east on Flynn. A big round hay bale fell from the trailer and struck Moser’s vehicle. Alva Police Officer Kris Franta investigated.

On May 17, a stopped vehicle was rear-ended by another. The collision was at 5:35 p.m. on Oklahoma Boulevard at Lane Street (U.S. Highway 281 North). Morgan Kylee Renbarger, 23, of Calumet was traveling west in a 2017 GMC Sierra and had stopped at the traffic light. Taylor Leigh Munsell, 20, of Alva was also going west in a 2007 GMC. Munsell believed Renbarger was turning right onto Lane Street and failed to stop, striking the rear of the Renbarger vehicle. Both vehicles had been moved from the scene before Officer William Shahan arrived to investigate.

On May 19, there was a two-vehicle collision at 3:35 p.m. on Oklahoma Boulevard at Fourth Street. Tyson Levi Kolb, 35, of Burlington was driving a 2011 Chevrolet east on Oklahoma in the inside lane. Ila Louise Wood, 89, of Alva was driving a 2002 Ford in the inside westbound lane on Oklahoma. Both drivers had a green light. Kolb was going straight ahead and Wood was turning left onto Fourth Street. Wood turned in front of Kolb, and Kolb’s vehicle struck Wood’s vehicle. Officer Timothy Clapp investigated.

On Monday, June 5, there was a collision at 6:39 a.m. on Choctaw Street at Fifth Street. Laura Hughes, 22, of Alva was driving a 1996 black vehicle east on Choctaw and failed to yield the right of way from the stop sign to a 2001 Ford driven by Phillip Prigmore, 72, of Alva. The vehicles collided in the intersection with significant body damage to both vehicles. However, neither vehicle was disabled. Hughes was cited for failure to devote full time and attention resulting in an accident. Officer Sean Farris investigated.

Garnett Gas Pump Damaged

Alva Police Officer Timothy Clapp investigated a report of damage at Garnett Oil Company, 518 Oklahoma Blvd., at 1:55 p.m. on May 21. He met with David Kenyon, the owner of the business, who reported damage to a fuel pump. The face of the gas pump was ripped off.

Clapp made contact with Sandra Lynn Lewis who said she forgot the fuel nozzle was still in the vehicle’s fuel tank and drove off. The hose caught on the face of the pump and ripped it off. Kenyon asked that a report be made. Lewis was to contact her insurance carrier to handle the damage cost. The estimated cost of damage to the fuel pump was $2,500.
