The Miss Alva Pageant will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m. at the Alva High School auditorium. Come show your support for these five young ladies as they vie for the title of Miss Alva. Tickets available at the door.

Contestant #1

Alaina Hurst

Hurst is the daughter of Jim and Cherie Hurst and Mike and Kim Vanlandingham. She has four siblings, Devery and Chandler Vanlandingham and Abby and Gage Hurst. She is involved in several organizations and extracurricular activities including Grand Worthy Advisor (state vice president) of Oklahoma International Order of Rainbow for Girls, president of Electric Gold show choir and president of Key Club. Hurst's hobbies include spending time with friends and family and vacationing in Red River, New Mexico, at her family's cabin multiple times a year. Kornele's hobbies include reading her Bible and leading Bible studies with fellow classmates, traveling across the country with the 4-H program and working with children and teaching them to dance. A fun fact about Kornele is she loves to organize and color coordinate. Kornele plans to attend a four-year university majoring in elementary education to obtain her teaching degree to become a fourth-grade teacher in the Alva School System. Perks is the daughter of Jason and Katie Perks, sister to Emma Perks (age 13, eighth grade) and Randee Perks (age 10, fifth grade). Extracurricular activities include Electric Gold and Art Club. Perks' hobbies include painting, drawing, singing and performing, hanging with friends and practicing with the band. A fun fact about Perks is she is a lead singer in a rock band.
