Waynoka School Board approves board election

October 4, 2017

The Waynoka School Board met Monday, Oct. 2, for a relatively short meeting in which they approved the annual board election for the 2017-2018 school year. Two seats are opening up for election: Seat 3 and Seat 5. Seat 3 is a five-year term, and Seat 5 is a two-year term. The election will be Tuesday, Feb. 13, 201,8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Members present at the meeting were Garret Gum, Clint Olson, Travis George and Rick George. Andy Ferguson was absent from the meeting. The board heard from a visitor to the meeting, a representative from Joe D. Hall, General Contractors LLC, who presented the school's construction completion report. The representative reported, “We appreciate the work, we appreciate you having the confidence in us, and I do think it's a neat addition to the gym.” The representative also reported that the project was under budget and did not have to use its contingency funds, thanks to Superintendent Cline working with the company and providing his oversight. As usual, the board approved the consent agenda, which consisted of the financial reports and encumbrances, and the minutes of the Sept. 5 regular meeting of the board. The treasurer's monthly revenue summary for Waynoka Public Schools as of Sept. 30 are as follows: General Fund: $4,439,046.48; Building Fund: $892,200.35; Child Nutrition Fund: $48,708.17. The board also approved the school's estimate of needs for the 2017-2018 school year. In his superintendent's report, Superintendent Scott Cline began with his financial report, stating that expenditures are down from this time last year, and the school's revenue has increased by about $30,000. “We're kind of being conservative, knowing the bill for the fridge and freezer that are now put in place will be coming.” Cline also stated that the Child Nutrition Fund expenditures have increased, but that is to be expected with the new company the school is using. Cline advised the board that there will be a special board meeting on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria, which encourages discussion between the public and the board of education on the school bond project. The board convened in executive session to discuss two items: the purchase of real property by the school district, and the resignation of an employee, both of which were accepted. Waynoka teacher Mercedes Henry's resignation was accepted and her last day will be Oct. 10. Henry and her husband will be relocating out of state.
