Generosity and excitement ramp up as Warmth for Winter giveaway date approaches

October 20, 2017

The phones are already ringing! The good people of Alva and the surrounding area are ahead of the curve when it comes to generosity and excitement about the annual Warmth for Winter project at the College Hill Church of Christ. For those of you who are not familiar with the program, please allow me to fill in the blanks.

Every October, we begin accepting contributions of warm winter clothing and blankets, en route to the big giveaway day – the last Saturday before Thanksgiving. This year the date is a little early (Nov. 18), so it’s a good thing that so many are already preparing their gifts. Each year, the community of Alva and the surrounding area serve the needs of more than 100 fellow citizens and friends. By the time you are reading this article, the collection trailer should be in place on the east side of the College Hill complex, under the awning. Please place any items of warm winter gear you wish to share inside the trailer.

The congregation at College Hill, along with other volunteers, will empty the trailer on Wednesday afternoons. If the trailer is full, as it sometimes is by Tuesday and Wednesday, please leave the items behind the trailer under the awning. If you cannot manage to bring them to the building, we can arrange to have someone come by and pick them up. Please use this option as a last resort, as that someone is usually me. The number is 327-0130.

As the time for the giveaway day draws closer, we will be placing ads in the local paper. If you know of folks in the community who might need warm clothing this winter, please make sure they are aware of the date and time. Thanks, again for your ongoing care and compassion.

See you Sunday!
