The Northwest Oklahoma Genealogy Society (NWOGS) met at the Alva Public Library on Jan. 13 with ten members present. President Ken Higgins welcomed all members and guest speaker Beth Smith.

Smith gave a very interesting program on the experience of a young pioneer woman. She was a 16-year-old woman named Alice Fell who left Nebraska in 1893 to stake claim to 160 acres of land in Indian Territory.

A man named Will Page with three young children assisted Alice on the long journey. Will's wife died in childbirth. Will and Alice helped each other when there were so many hardships and heartaches to...
