Law enforcement officers seized 54 items from 819 Ninth St. in Alva on Wednesday. Logan Michael Butler and Meghan Nicole Webb face several charges as a result of the search warrant.

Local law enforcement officers seized 54 items when serving a search warrant at 819 Ninth St. in Alva Wednesday. The items included marijuana and marijuana products, paraphernalia and road signs.

Woods County Undersheriff Keith Dale told Alva Police K9 Officer John Caviness on Monday, April 16, he had reliable information that Meghan Webb would be transporting a load of marijuana from Lamar, Colorado, to Alva in the next 24 hours, according to court records. Dale said Webb was to be picked up by a man named Logan and would be returning to Alva.

The undersheriff told Caviness he had been investigating Webb and her alleged trafficking of marijuana from Colorado to Oklahoma for the last three months. Webb was not employed and was supporting herself by selling marijuana, according to Dale's information. Caviness spoke with confidential informants who corroborated the information and providing a possible address in Alva where Webb would be arriving.

On April 17 at 3:30 a.m. while on routine patrol, Caviness observed a white 2013 Volkswagen car that appeared to be unoccupied with the motor running and the lights on at 819 Ninth St. He turned around and went back to investigate but saw the VW was leaving. Caviness conducted a traffic stop for possible criminal behavior related to residential burglaries and vehicle burglaries.

The driver said he was helping out a friend, Meghan Webb, who argued with her mother and was evicted from her mother's residence in Lamar, Colorado. The driver said Webb contacted him to request transport to Alva. He said he dropped her off at 819 Ninth St.

Caviness did a check on Webb whose Oklahoma driver's license listed her address as 923 Third St. in Alva. He also learned she had an active arrest warrant out of Garfield County.

Caviness learned Webb was picked up in Colorado and driven to Guymon. Then Webb left Guymon at 12:30 a.m. and arrived in Alva about 3:30 a.m.

Caviness noted in his affidavit that he found it highly abnormal that the driver would drive three hours one way, drop off a passenger (Webb) and immediately drive three hours back to Guymon. He also learned the vehicle belonged to an unidentified third party owner. He asked for and received verbal permission to search the vehicle for illegal narcotics. While searching the trunk area, he observed loose packaged ground coffee. From his experience, Caviness knew ground coffee was often used in an attempt to deceive narcotic detecting canines by masking the odor.

Based on what he had learned, Caviness applied for and received a search warrant for 819 Ninth St. for illegal narcotics. At 12:45 p.m. April 26 officers from the Alva Police Department and Woods County Sheriff's Office executed a "no-knock" search warrant. According to the police affidavit, upon entering the officers immediately detected an overwhelming odor of burnt marijuana from the interior of the residence. They found two suspects hiding in a rear bedroom closet area. Webb and Logan Butler were taken into custody.

During the search, officers found containers of a yellow waxy residue or DAB with a high level of concentrated THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. They found plastic baggies, a scale, smoking devices containing marijuana residue, and edible marijuana products. A digital police scanner programmed with the Alva Police Department frequency was found in the bedroom. It was turned on and law enforcement radio traffic was audible. A total of seven cellphones were taken as evidence long with multiple butane torches used to heat cannabis. Several stolen county road signs were discovered.

In the vehicle belonging to Butler, Caviness found $220 cash in the center console. An unloaded Braztech shotgun was also located nearby. A total of 54 items were seized as evidence.

On April 19 in Woods County District Court, Logan Michael Butler, 19, of Alva was charged with four felonies; (1) possession of controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute, (2) knowingly concealing stolen property, (3) unlawful use of police radio, and (4) maintaining place for keeping and/or selling controlled substance. The possession with intent to distribute charge carries a penalty of two years to life and/or a fine of up to $20,000.

In addition, Butler is charged with a misdemeanor of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bond was set at $30,000 and has been posted. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 8.

Meghan Nicole Webb, 20, of Alva was charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute, a felony. She was also charged with a misdemeanor of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Her next court appearance is also on May 8.
