Chamber Breakfast notes

Lynn L. Martin

The Alva Chamber of Commerce Eggs and Issues breakfast was held Friday in the second floor board room of BancCentral. Chamber Executive Director Alex Mantz is standing at the far end on the right giving announcements of upcoming events. Host Kyle Hughbanks is standing by the door opposite her. Senator Casey Murdock addressed the group about the past legislative session and some future issues.

Chamber Executive Director Alex Mantz said this was a good time for Alva since there have been three ribbon-cuttings in the last month: BancCentral, the Rusty Bucket and S & H Insurance.

Mantz said that every weekend in June major events are on the calendar. On June 2 is the 49th Nescatunga Arts Festival, the Mudslingers shootout, and the ARC Tournament; on the 9th of June, Kids and Cops will pack the park. The police chief, Ben Orcutt, said the goal is to get kids outside away from their devices, and hanging around with people who will cast a positive influence in their lives. He mentioned that the police want kids to understand they can be kind and helpful, not just there to take Mom or Dad to jail.

On June 19, 22 and 23, the Alva Regional Airport will be a stop for an air race with 56 planes landing, and then a fly-in and airshow will occur on the final two days of the week.

The Act 1 Theatre has a performance of "How the West Was Won" the last weekend in June.

The Rotary Club will have their 54th Fourth of July celebration that begins 8 a.m. and goes all day long, ending with the fireworks exhibition after dark. There will be free meals and free swimming, along with fun bouncy toys. The Helena Lion's Club will bring their train for rides beginning at 2 pm. A fly-over tribute to Cory Washburn will occur at 7 p.m.

In other news, Ridge Hughbanks, AHS graduate and OSU student, will be interning in Senator Langford's office this summer. Hughbanks also mentioned he is a candidate for the National FFA board selection, which will occur in October.

The annual Crazy Day Promotion will be on July 21. Also, the Woods County Coalition is offering a Taco Pile-on as a fund-rasier for the Gulp and Gallop summer program. The fund-raiser is this Monday, June 21.

Kasey Martin announced that Goldbug Gulp and Gallop is June 4 - June 28 this year at Washington School.
