Hospital expects short-term revenue decrease due to critical access

Being accepted as a critical access hospital was welcome news for Share Medical Center. The hospital was notified on Aug. 3 with a retroactive date of July 13. Share will be receiving a higher level of reimbursement for Medicare patients, which will certainly help the budget bottom line.

However, the new status has caused a temporary shortfall of cash flow for the local hospital. During the Tuesday, Aug. 21, meeting of the Alva Hospital Authority, both the CEO and the CFO discussed the short-term impact of this designation.
