Alva Church of God

Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:30 a.m. Alva Church of God is located at 517 Ninth St. in Alva, and can be found on the web at http://www.AlvaChurchOfGod.org.

Alva Friends Church

Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m .; coffee and donut fellowship at 10:10 a.m .; worship at 10:30 a.m. Alva Friends Church is on the corner of College Avenue and Center Street.

Avard Christian Church

Sunday services are from 2-4 p.m. Avard Christian Church is 7 miles west of Alva on Highway 64 and 7 miles south on County Road 370, or 6 miles south on Highway 281 and 7 miles west on Garvin Rd. Barnes Street Church of Christ

Sunday worship services will be at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. (7 p.m. during daylight savings time). Visitors are most welcome to attend the worship services. For more information, contact Andrew Rhodes (327-3368) and Brian Gaddy (327-5130).

Bible Baptist Church

Sunday, Sept. 2: Sunday school and adult Bible study groups will start at 10 a.m. There are three graded classes for children, a teen class, and two adult Bible classes. Join us for a time of learning and fellowship. Our worship service begins at 11 a.m. Come and sing the great hymns of faith and hear a message focused on making the Bible applicable to your life today. Junior and Teen Impact, our student ministry for fourth through 12th grades, meets at 5 p.m. Looking for a Sunday night service? We have one starting at 6 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 4: Celebrate Recovery meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It is a Christ-based recovery program to help provide a safe place to discover a Savior who can give freedom from hang-ups, hurts and habits. Everyone is invited to attend.

Wednesday, Sept. 5: Our midweek prayer meeting and Bible study meets at 7 p.m. This summer we are having a special video series study, “Unlocking the Mysteries of Genesis.”

Capron United Methodist Church

Cedar Grove Wesleyan Church

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Services at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints begin each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. with sacrament meeting (worship service). Sunday school classes for all ages, youth through adult, and Primary for children follow at 10:45 a.m. Priesthood and women's Relief Society meetings begin at 11:50 a.m. The church is located at 1467 Thunderbird, next to the Alva Recreation Complex. Visitors are always welcome.

College Hill Church of Christ

Sunday Bible class for all ages begins at 9:30 a.m. and worship begins at 10:30 a.m. Following the weekly fellowship lunch, the afternoon service will begin at 12:45 p.m. Don't miss a Sunday with our great Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Dacoma United Methodist Church

eXtreme Youth Center

Sixth-grade to 12th-grade students are invited to come to this fun place to hang out after school and through the summer. The eXtreme is under the direction of youth pastor Stony Kalonga. Sumer hours at the eXtreme are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

First Assembly of God

First Baptist Church

Sunday: Sunday school for all ages at 9:15 a.m. is followed by morning worship at 10:30 a.m., for which nursery is provided. The choir will rehearse at 2 p.m.

Tuesday: At noon is a brown bag Bible study – bring your lunch.

Wednesday: At 4 p.m. is bell practice. Church supper is at 5 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. by Team Kid, adult Bible study, youth Bible study, and choir practice.

First Christian Church

Sunday, Sept. 2: Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. (On Fifth Sundays, we have a breakfast here at the church during this time.) Worship begins at 10:30 a.m., as does Worship and Wonder for children over 4 years of age; nursery is provided for children under age 4.

The sermon will be “The Blessing of Work,” based on Colossians 3:20-25.

Serving will be elders Lucy Rhodes (also serving at Beadles) and Shelly Bouziden (also serving at Share) and deacons Craig Shafer (counter also serving at Beadles), Philip Anton (greeter also serving at Share), Devon Cushenbery (captain) and Laci Schultz (greeter).

Emily Bohlen will teach Sunday school. Ashlee Sneary will teach Worship & Wonder. Kelly Parker will bring the Children's Moments. Lisa and Lauren Parker will be in the nursery. Connie Anton will run sound and video.

First Presbyterian Church

First United Methodist Church

Sunday, Sept. 2: At 9:30 a.m. is Sunday school for all ages, including a nursery for infants and toddlers. At 10:30 a.m. is the worship service. Dr. Carol Cook Moore's sermon, “Laborers in the Vineyard,” is from Matthew 20:1-16. Pastor Carol will also present Children's Time. Liturgist will be Henry Moore. Ushers will be Halah and Chad Simon, Barbara Long, Ken Brown, Fred Neuman, Greg Dietz.

Monday, Sept. 3: The church office will be closed for Labor Day.

Tuesday, Sept. 4: At 11:30 a.m. United Methodist Women Fall Luncheon will be hosted by Mary-Martha Circle in Fellowship Hall. The annual Pledge Service is the program for the meeting. Leap Into Health wellness group led by Dr. Liz Kinzie will meet in the church parlor at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 5: At 5:30 p.m. is Chancel Choir rehearsal. At 6 p.m. is Wednesday Night Live fellowship dinner, followed by classes for children and youth from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 8: At 9 a.m., Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet in Education Building.

Hopeton Church

Hopeton: a non-typical church! You don't have to dress in a suit to be accepted; you can wear your jeans, get a cup of coffee, and enjoy contemporary music, great videos, and a relevant message.

Hopeton Church meets at 10 a.m. at the main campus in Hopeton, just a few short miles south of Alva on 281. Coffee bar begins at 9:30 a.m. in the new children's wing. We have something for every age: nursery, children, teens, adults, women's support groups, and adult small H.O.M.E. groups for fellowship.

Nazarene Church

Donut and coffee fellowship is at 9:15 each Sunday morning, Bible study for ages 6 and up at 9:30, and worship begins at 10:20 a.m. Nursery is available for children under age 6 during worship. Missions lessons for ages 6 through fifth grade are held the second and fourth Sundays of the month.

Four teens were promoted into youth last Sunday and all received new Bibles.

A group of four teens and a sponsor will be going to Six Flags next week for the 40th Annual Naz Nite, which is a fun time at the park for families who are a part of Southern Nazarene University and The Church of the Nazarene. The same weekend, a group of three ladies will be headed to Oklahoma City for Nazarene Girlfriends Retreat.

Look for youth and teens at The Big Cruise and Car Show. They will be hosting a fundraiser by selling on-the-go foods and snacks. Monies will be used to send two teens to NYC in Phoenix, Arizona, next summer and to send kids to camp as well.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church

The celebration of Holy Mass (Jesus in the Eucharist) is the source of our spiritual nourishment. Rev. Father Bala, Sagili Jesudas, is the parish priest (pastor) of Sacred Heart in Alva and its missions in Cherokee and Waynoka. You are welcome; be a part of the Sacred Heart Parish family.

Saturday: Waynoka services at Our Mother of Mercy Church include Sacrament of Confession at 4:30 p.m. and Holy Mass (Eucharist) at 5 p.m.

Sunday: Alva services at Sacred Heart Church include Sacrament of Confession at 8:15 a.m., Holy Rosary (1 and 3 Sundays) at 8:30 a.m., Holy Mass (Eucharist) at 9 a.m. Cherokee services at Saint Cornelius Church include Holy Rosary at 11 a.m. (all Sundays), Sacrament of Confession at 11:15 a.m., and Holy Mass (Eucharist) at 11:30 a.m.

Town and Country Christian Church

Sunday, Sept. 2: Sunday school for all ages will begin at 9:30 a.m. The Sunday school lesson for the adult class will be “God Creates Heavens and Earth,” from Genesis 1:1-13. At 10:30 a.m. worship service will begin. Neal Gordon will bring the communion meditation. Neal Gordon and Justin Lau will serve communion. Children's Church: Cherie Lau or Anita Jacobson. Pastor Chuck Lightfoot will bring the message.

Tuesday, Sept.4: Town and Country Saints will meet at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 5: Youth group will meet from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 30: Fellowship meal will follow the Morning Worship Service. Hi-Plains School of Missions will be at the church for the 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. They will also have a different missionary speak at the church each night at 7 p.m. from Sunday, Sept.30, through Thursday, Oct. 4.

Zion Lutheran Church

Rev. Aaron Wagner is the pastor of Zion Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) at Third and Maple.

Sundays: Divine Worship starts at 10:30 a.m. with Holy Communion twice monthly. During Advent and Lent, Zion holds Wednesday services at 7 p.m. Weekday School (grades 3-6) meets at 3:30 p.m.

Weekly meetings: Handbells practice (Mondays at 5 p.m.), confirmation class for grades 7 and 8 (Wednesdays at 5 p.m.).

Monthly meetings: youth group, Seasoned Saints (third Tuesday at 1 p.m.), Ruth Circle (first Monday at noon), Lutheran Women's Missionary League (first Tuesday at 6 p.m.).

The Lutheran Early Care and Education Center (327-1318) offers care for children as young as six weeks old, as well as an after-school program.

Vacation Bible School will be May 22–25, 9–11:30 a.m.
