First "Awesome Chieftain-Tornado Award" given

South Barber Junior High students Arrington Allen and Jesse Williams are the first recipients of the Awesome Chieftain-Tornado Award in their building. Presenting them with the award are (left) Superintendent Dr. Mylo Miller and Grade 7-12 Principal Brent Shaffer.

Students are being caught and awarded for doing good deeds at South Barber School, USD255 in Kiowa, Kansas.

Superintendent Dr. Mylo Miller said, "We started this program this year in order to recognize students for being good people. We wanted to identify students who may or may not excel at academics or athletics so they would have an opportunity to get recognition and to create a focus of positive communication home to parents from teachers."

Each month teachers will nominate students they see doing good things. The teachers then select two students from each site to receive the Awesome Chie...
