October 3, 2018

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — After a record-breaking second round, Henderson State picked up where it left off on Tuesday, as the Reddies shot 5-under 283 in the final 18 holes to cruise to victory at the 17-team Battle for the Belt at the Hot Springs Country Club.

The Reddies won by 11 strokes and compiled a team score of 15-under 849 for the event, which ties the program's best score ever at a three-round tournament on a Par-72 course.

Cameron McRae was the catalyst for Henderson on Tuesday, as he posted his best round of the tournament with a 4-under 68. The low round moved McRae into a tie for 8th place overall.

Mitchell Ford was just behind McRae and turned in his second-straight round of 3-under 69. Ford was 5-under for the event and finished in a tie for fifth place.

The No. 3 on the day for the Reddies was Kasoma Paulino, who carded his best round of the week with an even-par 72, while Trey DePriest was the final scorer with a third round of 2-over 74.

Nick Shapiro, who shot 3-over 75 in the final round, was the top overall individual at the event for Henderson. Shapiro finished in a tie for second place and was 6-under over three days. He had 15 birdies on the week — the most of any player in the field.

Kevin Boutier played well as an individual and tied for 14th overall with a final round of 1-over 73. Stuart Krog finished tied for 23rd and shot a 4-over 76 on Tuesday, while Christian Woods shot 1-over 73 to tie for 47th and Francisco Maciel shot 8-over 80 to take 86th.

Henderson's last win came at the Great American Conference Championships on the same Arlington Country Club course back in April.

The Reddies' next tournament is on Oct. 8-9, when they travel to St. Joseph, Missouri, to compete at the Fairfield Inn Central Region Invitational.
