Ladybugs extend winning streak versus Riverside

Enid, Okla. – The Ladybugs extended their winning streak to two games after a big offensive performance by Payton Jones in Friday night's 56-46 win over the Riverside Lady Braves.

Alva found themselves up 12-9 at the end of the first quarter. Payton Jones scored six points in the quarter followed by Hallie Durkee, who hit a three-point basket. The Ladybugs picked up where they left off in the first quarter as the team scored 12 points again in the second. The defense of Alva also picked up in the second quarter as the team held Riverside to just four points. The Ladybugs finished the first half up 24-13.

Both teams' offense ramped up in the third period as the Ladybugs outscored Riverside 18-15. The majority of Alva's points came from the three-point line as the Ladybugs connected from deep four times. Payton led the way for the Ladybugs as she scored 12 points in the quarter. Half of Jones' points in the quarter came from the three-point line. Stephanie Spellman was the only other Ladybug to score in the quarter, as she scored six points from two three-point baskets.

After three quarters, Riverside finally cut into the Alva lead in the fourth quarter as the team outscored Alva 18-14.

Ladybug Payton Jones led with a team high 30 points, followed by Hallie Durkee's eight points, and Stephanie Spellman added seven points for the Ladybugs.

The Ladybugs will play their next game versus Fairview on Tuesdaym Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m. This game will be Alva's senior night game.
