New teachers for the Alva Schools are Naicee Sutter (left), elementary music, and Ilene Littlefield, third- through fifth-grade counselor.

The Alva Board of Education hired two new teachers to start in the fall. Lincoln Principal Madison

Williams introduced Ilene Littlefield who will be a cou

nselor for third through fifth grades at

Longfellow and Lincoln. Littlefield is coming back from retirement and has a lot of experience in

many districts around the area.

Principal Alysson Tucker of Longfellow Elementary introduced Naicee Sutter who will b

e teaching

elementary vocal music. Sutter is a Kiowa, Kansas, native who has taught the last two years at South

Barber School. She has a performing arts degree from NWOSU. Her teaching license in Kansas is

currently being processed. As soon as it is finish

ed, she will obtain a reciprocal agreement for teaching

in Oklahoma.

Superintendent Tim Argo announced one teacher resignation. Middle school teacher Brenna Heaton is

leaving the Alva school district to teach at Northwest Technology Center.

Argo reported

two teachers will be reassigned for next year. Paul Hamilton will be moved from

Lincoln to the middle school to teach sixth grade math and science. Cara Bradt will be moving from

elementary music to the Alva High School library. Argo said, "We're excited f

or Cara, and she's

excited also. The state department has a grow

-

your

-

own program, and what it does is because of the

shortage in library media science it allows for a certified teacher to get a master's in that area." He

said she'll begin that program ove

r the summer.

Before the meeting, board members had the opportunity to tour a bus and learn more about the

features. Argo said this was not necessarily a bus they would be getting, but it allowed them to see

what is available.

After a meeting with the faci

lities committee last week, Argo met with TriArc and looked at the

school's ag farm, track and field facilities and parking at the middle school and high school. He said

he will be bringing the board a contract at a future meeting to address these issues.

Four student transfers from Waynoka were approved. They are Solomon Bias for kindergarten,

Madison Maras for pre

-

K, Hunter Stauffer for fifth grade and Aspen Stauffer for fourth grade.

The board approved a request by Nick Bradt to travel with students to W

aco, Texas, to participate in

the Baylor University Debate Workshop being held July 14

-

20.

The board approved paraprofessional Cindy Wright for extended school year special education

services from June 3 through June 30. Argo said she was needed to help wi

th students who are

working in the community.

The revised extra

-

duty assignment schedule was approved. It was changed to add three coaches who

were inadvertently left off earlier so they'll be able to draw pay for work in July.

The board approved renewal c

ontracts and memberships with accountants Chas W. Carroll, CPA; the

Woods County Commissioners, the OSSBA and Precision Testing Laboratories, Inc.

Argo said Dustin Moffatt has been doing a good job going through stored items. Several tech items no

longer n

eeded at Longfellow Elementary were approved as surplus. They include seven computer

monitors, seven keyboards, seven CPUs, two VCR/DVD players, a computer mouse and three

computer speakers. Argo said they expect to sell these items.

Financials

All investm

ents are up to date, said Argo, and interest is doing well. The school district will meet their

estimate of needs for this fiscal year without going over budget. He said the "finances of the district

are in good shape" even though gross production tax reve

nue continues to decline.

In the child nutrition report, Argo said the school is serving more meals than last year. He said

breakfasts served are up an average of 60 over last year.

Argo highlighted several purchase orders on the list being approved. One

to Midwest Music of Enid

for $7,800 was for band instruments and another $5,000 to the same company was for repair of band

instruments. A PO for $7,647.75 went to Pettit's House of Carpet to replace the band room carpet.

A desktop publishing computer was p

urchase from Apple for $1,699. Argo said AHS Principal Les

Potter and teacher Nick Bradt are excited about expanding the media production class, and this

computer will help with that.

An expenditure of $22,950 with Endex of Oklahoma, Inc. is to update the

building access system. It is

currently operated through a server. This updated system will be cloud

-

based and allow for each site

to manage access.

A purchase order for $4,812 to Alva Roofing is for testing the Alva Middle School for water leaks.

Greydog

Mechanical is listed for $12,847.12 for work on the Alva Middle School vocal room heat and

air unit. Northwest Electric was approved for $6,545 for updating lights on the lower level classrooms

at Lincoln School.

An open purchase order was approved with G

reydog Mechanical for district heat and air repairs.

Another open PO for $5,540 to Wilson Construction is for sod and drain pipes to address the Lincoln

School area that is washing out.

The board also approved temporary appropriations which will allow the

school to operate until the

estimate of needs for the next fiscal year is completed.
