Summer heat

John Sebastian of the Lovin’ Spoonful sang, “Hot time, summer in the city, back of my neck getting’ dirt and gritty,” and global warming was yet to come!

Oklahoma, cool, and August have never been used in the same sentence. I remember childhood without air conditioning. We had “water coolers,” which, unlike air conditioning which removes humidity, added moisture to the air. We had to have some windows open to allow the large quantity of humid air inserted into the living space by the squirrel cage blower to exit. There were times when it worked well.
