Two city department supervisors to be introduced

November 17, 2019

Monday the Alva City Council is expected to name those to serve on the swimming pool task force. They will also be announcing the new supervisors for the street and sanitation departments. The council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall.

Instead of hiring one person to replace Benny Perks who retired, the city has decided to split the street and sanitation departments and hire a supervisor for each. Those supervisors will be introduced Monday night.

The city will also present the employee selected to be recognized for October by the personnel committee. The award recognizes an employee who has gone above and beyond normal duties to deliver exceptional customer service, who comes up with a process to reduce lost time in the department or who works diligently to solve a problem. The city accepts nominations for this award on a regular basis.

The following individuals are being submitted for council approval to be appointed to the swimming pool task force: Renae Green, Meagan Caldwell, Ric Towns, Greg Baker, Scott Brown, Jacque Ruhl and Paul Barton. The city received several applications for the task force.

The council will vote on a resolution approving the interlocal cooperative agreement for Circuit Engineering #8. Another resolution up for a vote requests the refund of the unused portion of the FY 2016-2017 loss fund from OMAG in the amount of $25,381.47.

There will be discussion and action to enter into a contract with Nextep Business Solutions IV for human resources services. The personnel committee was tasked with looking into contracting out the recording of employee time and the processing of payroll to make the process more efficient and economical; eliminate errors occurring with a manual system; track employee sick time, vacation time and other benefits; and develop an efficient, error-free method of delivering paychecks to employees.

The council will be voting on a purchase of 100 low-lead avgas for the airport which is expected to exceed $25,000, the pre-approved amount the city manager can okay without going to the council.

Brief reports will be given from earlier city-related meetings. The mayor and city business manager will also give reports.

An executive session is planned for discussion of pending claims and actions.

Following reports and before the council acts on agenda items, citizens present will be given the opportunity to make remarks or inquiries, limited to two minutes per speaker.

The Alva Utility Authority and Alva Economic Development Authority meetings will follow council adjournment.
