Alfalfa County working to secure federal funds

January 15, 2020

A blanket of fog hovered over Cherokee Monday morning but it wasn't enough to deter the three Alfalfa County commissioners from making their 10 a.m. meeting. Jay Hague, Stan Tucker and Marvin Woodall (joined by county clerk Laneta Unruh and administrative assistant Nancy Lambert) kicked things off by examining maintenance and operation payment warrants, monthly officer reports and blanket purchase orders. The heap of paperwork was considerably large, but the men signed off and approved it all.

With no road crossing permits for the week, commissioners moved on to endorse a memorandum of agreement with the Federal Lands Access Program. (The Federal Lands Access Program provides funds for projects on Federal Lands Access Transportation Facilities that are located on or adjacent to, or that provide access to Federal lands.)

Woodall has been working diligently to secure funding for repairs to Crystal Road in District 3 but working within the confines of governmental parameters has taken an inordinate amount of time. Commissioners Hague and Tucker commended Woodall on his efforts and the three moved on to sign the Federal Lands Highway Funds transfer agreement.

Next up was the approval of a private property easement in District 2 (SW¼ of 21-26-11) to remove rock off of the railroad right of way.

Lastly, several items that were once used by Goltry Rescue were declared surplus:

• VitaLink AED Defibrillator

• Resperonics Pulse Oximeter

• Three Motorola handheld radios

• Traffic buster lightbar

• Traffic alert siren

• Scott Air Pack bottle

• Basic rescue kits

• Advanced rescue kits

Resolutions for the disposal of these items were signed into effect, and with that the meeting was adjourned.
