County farm bureaus will celebrate the organization's dedication to agriculture as the base of Oklahoma's economic prosperity, as Oklahoma Farm Bureau Week was proclaimed for the week of Feb. 17-21, 2020. Different farm bureaus across the state use the week to host events in their local communities in efforts to raise awareness of Farm Bureau and share the benefits of a Farm Bureau membership. Alfalfa County commissioners Jay Hague, Stan Tucker and Marvin Woodall signed documents recognizing the proclamation during their meeting earlier this week.

After the proclamation was made, the three officials took on the task of reading and reviewing previous meeting minutes, maintenance and operation warrants for payment, monthly officer reports, and blanket purchase orders. They each gave the necessary signatures in approval of those items and moved on to open bids.

For a 90-horse tractor (with trade-in of a 2013 5075M John Deere tractor) to be used at the fairgrounds, a bid from Rother Brothers ($23,750) beat out Enid New Holland and Kubota ($19,450) and Western Equipment of Alva ($21,515.23). Commissioners said the Case tractor was a better quality machine that came with a good extended warranty. For a 53' x 102' drop deck trailer with beavertail and ramps, Sturgeon Tractor and Truck Sales submitted a bid for $20,000 that commissioners accepted.

An amendment on last week's resolution authorizing the calling and holding of the county election (to submit to the qualified electors the question approving Resolution 2020 levying a 2% county sales tax, per the agenda) was made because of an incorrect date.

Before adjourning, commissioners approved Vickey Leech and Aaron Hoggard to serve as Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) board members.
