Letter to the Editor: The future of masks

I have been writing articles supporting the use of masks, but I always forgot to mention that I do not want to wear a mask. For many years I wore a mask every time I mowed the grass. It was uncomfortable and fogged my glasses and made it hard to keep my glasses on – not even to mention small problems like messing up my hair and making it difficult to talk through the mask. But it was even more uncomfortable to have nose and sinus and throat troubles so I would remember to use a mask most of the time.

Well, what about everyone else? Nobody wants to wear a mask. Not even for a couple of weeks. So what is going to happen after the heat kills off the virus? I will still go back to wearing a mask when running some power tools and maybe even goggles. But at least I will be happy to put the mask away most of the time.

I am also beginning to believe that it would have been better to have everyone wearing masks than closing most of the businesses and industries, especially in the western part of the state.

In the big cities they had a problem with airports bringing people in from other states and countries and running around with no masks.

How about looking funny wearing a mask? Some people said I look good. At Walmart on a Tuesday, I saw a guy without a mask and I realized he looked out of place. He looked funny. Then I started thinking about the droplets of moisture that he was exhaling. At least the rest of us could be about 75 percent protected with non-medical masks.

But I still don’t like to wear a mask.

Well, in a couple of weeks, people without masks will look normal again. What about even maybe handshakes and hugs again?
