Alva Cloverbuds 4-H
November 1, 2020
Oct. 5–10 was National 4-H Week. The Alva Cloverbuds 4-H group represented their community by filling the Blessing Boxes around town with food all through the week. Pam Coffman, 4-H leader, created a list of items to be put in the boxes each day of the week.
The Cloverbuds of Alva are 4-H members ages 5-8 years old. There are 25 members this year and they meet once a month to learn life skills on interesting topics to be encouraged to grow and experience new things.
Last year they helped Kayla Leeper with her community project, Kayla's Kindness. Kayla is an Alva 4-H member and began a project delivering items to the Children's Hospital, Stephenson Cancer Center, and many other places to the patients to brighten their spirits during their stay. Our Cloverbud group brought their loose change each month to help with her expenses but because of COVID-19 the group was unable to present Kayla with the money they collected.
This year at their October meeting they were proud to be able to present their money collected to Kayla Leeper. The Cloverbuds began their meeting with the pledges of the flags and the 4-H Pledge. Leader, Paula McMurphy, reviewed the meaning of the four H's and then introduced EMT Julie Dennis and Police Chief Ben Orcutt who presented a lesson on First Aid and Safety. The group was very inquisitive and learned valuable life skills in case of accidents and safety rules during Halloween evening while out Trick or Treating. After the lesson, helpers Charlean Ream and Jillian York assisted the members in making First Aid Kits and then the meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 3:30 p.m. with special guest Gail Swallow teaching the members about Bat Habitat.
